How to Use the ClickDesigns Layers Feature

In this article, you'll learn how to use the layers pane on your ClickDesigns editor.

Step 1: Click the Button "Layers"

Go to the ClickDesigns Editor with the template or a design that you would like to edit.

Once you're in, hover your mouse to the top righthand side corner of your ClickDesigns interface and click the button "Layers" as shown in the image below.

After clicking the button "Layers" you'll instantly know the number of layers that you have on the righthand side bar of the canvas. So, in this case it's obviously 40 layers as shown in the image below.

You can click and select each of the layers that are revealed on the "layers panel". Then you'll be able to see on the left-hand side the image preview once you have selected a certain layer.

Step 2: Naming Your Layers

We strongly recommend that you name each of your layers appropriately so that it is easier for you to track them when you need to make iterations later on. Just click on the "pencil icon" on the layers panel as shown in the image below.

Once you hit the "pencil icon", you can now name the layer according to the image. In this case, the image is a Laptop Mockup. So, we are naming it "Laptop Mockup".

Also, when you are clicking and selecting the layers on the layers panel, you can also see the image on your canvas being selected or highlighted.

In this way, it is easier for you to identify which element is at what layer and it is easier for you to organize them.

Step 3: Organizing Your Elements

Once you are done with your naming your layers, you can now organize and designate them easily, especially with those elements that are hard to move because it is being overlapped with another element.

You can reposition or delete certain elements on your canvas by clicking any layers on the layers panel. You have the option to drag an element on your canvas and reposition it when selected.

Step 4: Locking Your Elements

We sometimes overlook some elements and don't realize that we accidentally move them.

When we do realize, it is too late... Either we have published and posted our work or we exported it and submitted it to the client.

To avoid this, ClickDesigns has created a special feature of locking your elements so it stays where you want them to be.

So, whatever image you move, the locked elements will stay in place.

Step 5: Grouping Your Elements

Just click "control + shift" (For Windows) or "command + shift" (For Mac) while selecting and clicking the elements you want to group together.

Then on your lefthand side panel, click the button "Group" and you can "Ungroup" them as well.

Then you can also rename the grouped elements since they're already together as one.

You also have the option to lock your grouped elements if you want to.

As for the background images, you can also move them around, resize and reposition them or even delete them as well if you think you don't need them in your design template.

That is how you can take advantage of the layers feature in ClickDesigns. This is to ensure that every project that you create is well-placed and organized.
